Glenn Danzig Criticizes Bands Who Continue To Play Shows After “Final” Tour

Glenn Danzig Criticizes Bands Who Continue To Play Shows After “Final” Tour

In a new interview with KCAL host Radioactive MikeZ, Glenn Danzig said that while he has no plans to retire, if he were to announce a final concert, he would uphold the commitment. “I remember when Danzig went out with Ozzy, that was supposed to be his final tour,” he recalled with a laugh. “And then he’s done a bunch of final tours since then.” Danzig added, “If it’s gonna be final, it should be final. If you say it’s gonna be final… You’ll see all these bands [promoting] the last tour, and then they’re back again two years later. And it’s kind of a scam.” But if Danzig ever does announce a “final” tour, you better believe him. “When it’s final, and if I say it’s final, it’ll be final,” he says. The 69-year-old singer’s approach to touring has also evolved as he’s aged. “I’ll do a string of shows, which I don’t consider a tour,” he said. (Consequence of Sound)

Tony Visconti Recalls His Bittersweet Final Conversation With David Bowie

In a new interview with The New York Post, legendary music producer Tony Visconti recalls the poignant final conversation he shared with his longtime collaborator, David Bowie. Visconti worked with Bowie from the 1960s until the music icon’s death in 2016. The 80-year-old producer said during their final conversation, Bowie was "whispering" to him on the phone, making it hard to hear him. "He goes into another room, and he says, ‘I’m going to be a grandfather.'" Bowie's son Duncan Jones was expecting a baby, and his grandson, Stenton David Jones, was eventually born on July 10, 2016, six months after the singer died on January 10. Visconti produced Bowie's last album, Blackstar, released just two days before he passed away from liver cancer. Visconti said Bowie mentioned he was working on a new album during their last talk, which he was excited to hear. "He goes, ‘Yeah, well, right after we get over the holidays, we’ll get together, and I’ll let you hear the music,’’ Visconti recalled. (People)

“We Are The World” Recording Session Drove Bob Dylan To A “Nervous Breakdown”

Forty years ago this week, the groundbreaking charity single, "We Are the World," was released. The track was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, and went on to raise $80 million for Ethiopian famine relief. One of the lasting images of the legendary recording session – especially in the meme-driven world of social media – features a miserable looking Bob Dylan appearing to be having the worst night of his life. While promoting Netflix’s documentary, The Greatest Night in Pop, back in 2022, Richie recalls that, “Poor Bob was having a nervous breakdown.” The studio footage of a visibly uncomfortable Dylan has since gone viral, and in a past 20/20 interview, the legendary musician shares his insight into the tune’s lasting impact. "People buying a song and the money going to starving people in Africa is, you know, a worthwhile idea,” he said. “But I wasn’t so convinced about the message of the song, to tell you the truth. I don’t think people can save themselves, y’know." (People)
